Emerging as a micro-budget smash earlier this year, director Josh Trank and writer Max Landis united to turn the found-footage genre on its head with a superhero drama filled the ledge 2011 with smart camera techniques as Chronicle hit the screen with acclaim and a solid box office win. Shortly afterwards, Landis embarked on a much anticipated sequel but we haven't heard too much since then. While Trank looks too busy to return for the second installment, it's clear that perhaps Landis' follow-up to his hero hit has walked into a bit of a lull period for the time being. Now, it seems there could be some trouble in the halls of Fox as one family member cautions that there is some hesitation regarding Landis' new tale. Father and fellow filmmaker John Landis told The Playlist , “[Max] wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ the ledge 2011 So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.’ There's no plot details on Chronicle 2 thus far, but things aren't sounding too solid in terms of development. Though it's clear Fox wants to move into production as soon as possible, it's the entire basis of the second film that could easily slow the process down. It ultimately sounds as if Fox just wants a new group of kids gaining superpowers with whoever was left standing from the original to tie themselves in somehow, while Landis would like to take Matt's tale to new heights. Whatever the case, it seems there are revisions and new drafts to come soon, while there is also the chance 20th Century Fox could hire a new scribe for rewrites. How that will go over with Landis the ledge 2011 may be a big tipping point, but honestly it sounds like Fox may just need to sit back, put their trust in Landis and let the creative mind handle this one.
