The month of January is usually a dumping a arte da guerra ground for theaters. But almost everyone a arte da guerra was blindsided with how good Max Landis Chronicle was. Since the film brought in a nice amount of cash for Fox, the studio commissioned a sequel to be produced. Landis has been hard at work writing the script. But despite his efforts, it seems that Fox isn t too happy with what he has turned in.
[Max] wrote a sequel, and it s amazing, and the studio read it and said, We want Chronicle again! And he said, No, this is the sequel, it s the evolution, and they said No, we want that movie again! So it s difficult, we re dealing with a difficult business.
It s really no surprise that a studio, like Fox, would be butting heads with a filmmaker. It s even less surprising that a studio would want more of the same thing rather than an evolution of the story. But it s great to hear that Landis has written something that would be a fresh take on his creation. It would be interesting to take a look at the script and see what kind of changes Landis has made.
But like most studios, Fox would rather play it safe, instead of taking risks. Let s just hope that Fox and Landis can find some sort of middle ground, otherwise I see this property heading over to a new writer.
