Postcards From the Edge

Books etc. have been introduced to keep some book club friends informed of their summer reading. Most of us are Swedish teacher at the high school and middle school, but there are also other professions represented.
Finally steck vaughn finished a book! Has been Aunt full time in Laholm a week, and after a brief stopover at home to watch the "house" I'll south again to include going to birthday parties and play with nieces and nephews (now the three of them, so I suspect it not so much time for reading for a while). We read the Picoult in bokcirkeln with some mixed reviews. Now I've read Picture Perfect, which is about Cassie, an anthropologist, who is lightning in love with Alex, Hollywood Actor, as she is called in as an expert in one of his films. After a short acquaintance they get married and at first everything is fine. But soon Alex true side up. Cassie gets severely beaten by him, but stays because he always promises that it will not happen steck vaughn again. Once she is pregnant and miscarries because of the beating, and when she discovers that she is pregnant again, she decides steck vaughn to move. She gets help from his friend Will who takes her to an Indian reservation where his relatives live, where she stays until the baby is born. She has been in contact with Alex on a few occasions and he promised again that everything steck vaughn will be fine and that he should go to therapy. Cassie decides to believe in him and let him come and get her and her son. The book was like that. I otherwise liked the books I have read by Picoult. It is an important steck vaughn topic being discussed, and it is certainly interesting to discuss (in the back were some "Book club discussion questions"), but the plot seemed predictable and portrayal of Alex was pretty clichéd. Cassie's reaction and behavior, steck vaughn however, felt more authentic. I think the book ended well after all. Read it in English and got some language training in the bargain.
I've thought a lot about Picoults books; shame that this did not meet expectations. But she produces the part, so all might not be well. For those of you not in the bokcirkeln I highly recommend "My steck vaughn Sister's Keeper" ("My

Sister's Keeper"), an incredibly steck vaughn powerful novel by Picoult. I also found that "19 minutes" was great. Have a good time with nieces and nephews Marie! Hope you have good weather. I just returned from Gotland with two signed copies of Anna Jansson in the trunk, a children's book detective for 5 - 12 year olds and the latest adult thriller ..... ReplyDelete
